MC 8/22

Postmodernism is an involved, heavy and complex phenomenon to wrestle with. After Tuesday's class, I'm still convinced that Critical Approaches to Postmodern Culture will prove to be challenging and painfully difficult. Still, it is undeniable how prevalent an active study of these concepts are. As a college student and computer lab technician, I'm constantly bogged down by instant information through the internets, news networks and DVRs that allow me to record and view programs at my leisure. I'm determined to make the most of the class to help me figure out the overwhelming, commercialized, overstimulated world I live in.

The extent of how postmodernism can dissect all aspects of the real and digital world became apparent to me when Dr. Roger Casey presented his definition of postmodernity: "An era in which commentary supplants authority". Before, I hadn't really considered the depths of commentary in journalism, literature or politics. Now, as I delve into postmodern topics, I have to ask myself: Are we slaves to our own commentary and is there a limit to our postmodern development?
