AM post class 9/5

Please forgive me, my fellow postmodernists. I am catching up with my blogs. Afterall, I am a postmodern girl, living in a postmodern world.

Things these days are certainly in MOCK 5 speed. A funeral, a wedding, three classes at Rollins, daily living responsibilities ala 1950's nuclear family style and a baby (now coming down with bronchitus!) all make for a fast paced day. What is it that says I have to maintain this pace?

Postmodernity has reached my inner drive. Gotta do this, run here, pick this up, Oh! don't forget this, rush, rush, rush! Undeniably, there is a heightened sense of speed. (Insert the Waning of Affect here and realize my de-sensitized drive!) What is our culture saying to me? No doubt the ideas circultating in our culture are exhausting to a developing person like myself. "The breakdown of the signifying chain is schizophrenia" says Rog.. and the Rob Thomas song, "Unwell" comes to mind. This kind of atmosphere whispers, "It's later than you think...you must move forward (upward, outward, onward)."

Linear time is on the fast track!

Postmodern culture, in all its' intensity is missing something, don't you think?

I'm most intriqued by this past class by the architectual example of, "the return to the absent center." If this is an accurate example (although we, as postmodernists don't have a SCALE to measure this by) of Postmodern Culture, then it is almost a kind of allegorical figure for our times. The return to the absent center in definition, says, the "core of the text is most shallow." Now, take that, and apply it to our culture...not just in architetual terms... but hurry. Afterall, you are a postmodern person, living in a postmodern world.

Some boys kiss me, some boys hug me
I think they're O.K.
If they don't give me proper credit
I just walk away

They can beg and they can plead
But they can't see the light, that's right
'Cause the boy with the cold hard cash
Is always Mister Right, 'cause we are

Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Some boys romance, some boys slow dance
That's all right with me
If they can't raise my interest then I
Have to let them be

Some boys try and some boys lie but
I don't let them play
Only boys who save their pennies
Make my rainy day, 'cause they are

Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Living in a material world (material)
Living in a material world
Living in a material world (material)
Living in a material world

Boys may come and boys may go
And that's all right you see
Experience has made me rich
And now they're after me, 'cause everybody's

Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

A material, a material, a material, a material world

Living in a material world (material)
Living in a material world
