E.M. After Class 9-6 Post

Simulacra and the “Cult of the new” in my view-- the two are connected. In our quest for more and more outlandish things we turn around in mid stride and want Ketch or something that reminds us of an older simpler time. That memory of the past is only dulled by the passage of time – it was not easier or better – just different.
Simulacra when the copy becomes more popular or recognized than the original. What’s weird is that June Cleaver also known as Barbara Billingsley used to go to my dentist. It was surreal for me to see an aged June sitting in the same waiting room. She wore sweat pants and no pearls. My senses refused to assimilate this information. I believe I am part of the first generations of children brought up with the TV baby sitter mode. The real June lives in the perfect house with the perfect husband and never needs to see a dentist. Is this simulacra in action? The copy of June was real to me and not the real June.
Is this phenomena part of the CSI effect? In olden times like five or ten years ago prosecuting attorneys’ were reluctant to submit DNA evidence or complicated forensics. With the advent of forensic shows we have what is termed the CSI effect – Juries are savvy and understand the difference between DNA and mitochondrial DNA evidence. The fake TV shows are more real and trust worthy. We are educated by our popular television--- next its going to be geologist reality TV how do we find that next big oil well and will the Clampets live in luxury or will be left with out Satillite TV and no DSL.

Good reflections. On CSI note: Biology and chemistry majors are way up thanks to CSI.
