AM post class 11/7
I used to run with a bunch of guys that had, "My Grass is Blue" on the back of their pick ups. They were more concerned about their hunting licenses than their voter registration cards. They weren't hillbillies or rednecks exactly -just sorta good ol' boys with a passion for the outdoors, an occasional whiskey and some Willie Nelson. Now, that's not to be confused with an occasion outdoors and a passion for whiskey....but anyway...
The doorbell just rang. Two nicely dressed people just knocked on my front door to spread the, "Good" news. They said it was a, "public service message".
What do we do? Do we, as students of Postmodern Culture, go door to door and say we have a public service message? How do I begin to explain Herman & Chomsky for example, to the boys with the pick up trucks?
Now THAT would be interesting.
"Scuse me, Randy....couldja turn that down just a bit?...I wanna read this quote to you 'bout how the media establishes middle class morality..."
Something tells me that might be a challenge. So now what do we do? Do we just go around with this beacon of light within us and stay quiet? As our society spins on its media driven axis, don't you think it's important that we ALL understand what's going on? In a way, if we don't explain it, then we contribute to the centrifugal force pulling us around and around. (Or maybe it's Centripetal... interesting...)
I was listening to the radio yesterday evening -O'RockI think -and the DJ kept saying they should put, "salary caps" on political candidates because they spend way too much money on their campaigns. Salary caps? Dude. Duuuuuudddde.
It pained me to hear this DJ. Knowing he was incorrect was one thing...but knowing he was speaking to a very large, very influential audience really hurt. I think it was a great example of how the news media is anti-intellectual.
With that in mind, I'll go back to my XM radio, listen to Bluegrass Junction and think of simpler days with the guys in the pick ups ...until I figure out a way to spread THE news.
