Well,
This weeks readings touch on such an interesting aspect of being human - gender. As with many, many other living things on this planet, we share in the male/female dances of power. That said it doesn't appear that female raccoons think differently than males; at least not overtly. BUT WE HUMANS, our brains are just so damn big that we have to whack every aspect of our lives until rosy. What?
I just saw that in New York (city district only ... I think), it is now up to the applicant, of jobs and or other registrations or services, whether they select Male or Female as gender. Providing this power to the applicant seems somewhat superficial, but it could provide a great feeling of power or ownership to the applicant. Much like many other aspects of living in the PoMo circus, gender separating lines are now being blurred. Looking at the continuum of human development, acts of gender equalization have seemed to come at important points in our history.
I always wondered why women were restricted from worship, education, ministry, and leadership positions as a young student. Part of the reason is now obvious - insecurity - but that never made sense to me. I always felt as though restricting anything that could be thought about, managed, created, or inspired by or with women had the rational equivalent to purposefully living with one eye, or one hand, or one leg. I always asked "why have/or did we cut our potential in half?" This question still remains in many regions of the world; even in our "progressive" country. It is easily understood that questions surrounding gender roles, potential, and signification are discussed by PoMo theorists. As the world continues to develop in more dynamic, eclectic, and expansive ways, utilizing the power of each gender will be critical to the fulfillment of our (human) true potential.
