STEVE-O WHO REALLY CARES ANYWAY?
After finishing Bourdieu last week, I enjoyed the twist in our predictable class routine. I found it not only refreshing to change things up a bit, I thought it gave us, the commentators, a chance to establish some authority. That being said, it was easy to get distracted on the simple task of reviewing a semi-comprehendible Chomsky. If we had done that with any of the more confusing writers, it would have been hard to discuss anything but the confusion we faced while spending hours reading page numbers in single or low double digits. Nevertheless, I want to reiterate the fact that we really needed a break from the quote regimen we have become accustomed to. Also, did anyone else notice that the quotes deemed of importance seem to be getting longer and longer? I almost started laughing out loud during last class. I don’t want anyone, (R.O.G.), to think I am criticizing the methods used in class; I just want to put my thoughts out there for people, R.O.G., to know my experience with the course. I do think I am retaining the maximum amount of information possible for the vast numbers of ideas being presented and similarly my potential of becoming a Postmodern thinker has far exceeded my expectations at the start of the semester.
I better stop that rant and discuss some content from last weeks readings. To bring my earlier topic full circle, lets look at this:
"If the printed press should happen to raise an issue – a scandal or debate – it becomes central only when television takes it up and gives it full orchestration, and, thereby, political impact" (M 332).
So…I can rant and rave all I want about the effectiveness or lack there of in our great professors decisions for optimal learning. It doesn’t really become a true issue until we see it on Local 6. And as the Notorious R.O.G. has told us, we better have a real good sound bite waiting for them, and we also must put up with there want to be included in our superior intellectual realm. No wonder we don’t have as many Deep Throats as we could and should, who wants to put up with the media and their demands. As long as we are right in our own minds… it is almost fruitless to try and convince everyone else…Let them find out on their own.
“When we make agreements there’s no escape,
Form it, hate it, love it, rate it as great,
God gave us talent,
We show how that we create,
Enough of being deep it's time to motivate” Black Eye Peas
